COMMENT - WHY THE UK MEDIA SHOULD BLAME ITSELF MORE THAN THE GOVERNMENT FOR THE RECENT GANG KILLINGS

A great saying is that a man must ask what he can do for his country and not what the government can do for him.

This week the media has reminded us of all the failures and lies of the labour government concerning gang crimes and the upsurge in crime.

While I certainly do support the fact that anybody and in fact everybody has the right to lambaste the government for obvious errors and incompetence, I am surprised it is the media that chooses to do so.

If there is any one institution that trains most children in the way of their life in this country, it is the media. Any child or gang derives its training, nourishment and 'mentorship' from the stars of most of the films and programmes on out TV.

Forget bad parents, I will want to tot a gun like James Bond any day because he is the image of a hero for the society today. The media thoroughly adores such stars and presents them as 'celebrities'.

If children are acting out their 'celebrities' out on the streets, I really don’t know why we complain.

Time to rethink some things, isn’t it? But in the mean time, the media better shut up! - Prince Abbey
